A look at 4.2M people offers this dementia clueThere are so many forms of movement our bodies take on. Is one really better than another? Researchers compared physical activity across four parts of daily life: leisure time, work, household tasks, and commuting, to find out how each type impacted brain health:¹
- They assessed data from more than 4.2 million adults in 30 countries; participants were followed for an average of 10 years.
- People with high levels of leisure-time physical activity had a 24% lower risk of dementia than those with the lowest levels.
- Household physical activity was also associated with a lower risk.
- One thought on physically demanding jobs and commuting is that they can come with greater stress, less control, and exposure to noise or air pollution.
Turn your down time into a longevity plan by making it active—do a sport or fitness class you enjoy, ask a friend to go on a hike, or run around with your kids. All of it will pay off for your future brain.
